So yesterday I told you how we wound up at the vet. So back to the vet today...
After finding that Rico did in fact have Giardia, he got 2 shots in his bum. Again he was so so good. I was such a proud mother that day. The next thing the vet did was pry his mouth open by putting his fingers on either side of his jaw and pushing down. He did it so effortlessly and shot this medicine down Rico's throat that supposedly tastes really bad to them. Rico was a little upset at that, but still a really good boy.
We made an appointment for the following Saturday to make sure it went away with the instructions to give him the medicine twice a day for 10 days. Ok so we were a little lax on this one. It was hard!!! We couldn't open his mouth as effortlessly as the vet did...probably because Rico knew what was coming. For the next week we probably gave him the medicine on average about once a day...this includes days where we actually did it twice and days where we forgot to do it at all.
One night we had him wrapped tightly in a towel, my boyfriend with the medicine in hand ready to shoot and me holding him so tightly with my hand around his head, fingers on jaw, palm over his eyes because we thought if he couldn't see he wouldn't know what was coming...not true. As soon as I got his jaw slightly open my boyfriend shot the medicine, but Rico was already gone. We realized moments later that we had shot him in the eye!! I went to go find him and he was looking at me like a pirate, one eye open, one eye shut. My boyfriend wanted to call the vet to make sure the stuff wouldn't make him go blind, but by the time we decided whether or not to bother the doctor Rico seemed fine.
What a sitcom in real life...with a cat as the main character.
So long story short we brought Rico back to the vet and the Giardia was gone. He got some shots that he should get once a year and we made an appointment to bring both him and Hector back in 3 weeks. We're going to be good parents eventually! ; - )
